Events - 2008

Cycling Sundays at Petco Park start on April 6th, and continue all 2008 season long for every Padres Sunday home game, so ride from home

or choose your own Park and Pedal location for a low-stress, healthy and green way to go to the Sunday afternoon game, and support the new Bicycle Parking Pavilion - its secure and free.

July

9 – Volunteer night downtown office, 740 13th St, Suite 220. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Food, fun, and a little good work thrown in, too.

12 - ROAD I - Bicycling Street Skills: This new class is being offered by the Oceanside Park and Recreation Department Classes will be held 9:00AM to Noon three consecutive Saturdays (July 12th, 19th and 26th). Registration on line is available at the Oceanside Park and Recreation Department web site. You may also call the Joe Balderrama Center at (858) 435-5530 for further information. These is a $65 fee for this class and it is open only to those 14 years of age or older.

13 – Ride and Learn Coronado. Meet at Tidelands Park (end of Mullinix) 9:00 for 9:15 ride start. One of our most scenic ride and learn routes!

23 – Board meeting, Downtown office, 740 13th St, Suite 220. 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

 

August

10 – Ride and Learn Mission Bay. Meet at the Mission Bay Visitors Center at 9:00 for 9:15 ride start. Beautiful ride around Mission Bay, 15 mile, conversational pace, no drops. Don’t miss it!

September

7 - Bike The Bay. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the San Diego Bay and your only opportunity to ride your bike across the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. This non-competitive, community bike ride for riders of all abilities will take riders on a scenic and primarily flat ride around the San Diego Bay via the Bayshore Bikeway. Along the way, riders will travel through the surrounding cities of Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City before finishing back at the start/finish line at Embarcadero Marina Park in downtown San Diego. Not only will the route travel through all five of these very diverse communities but it will also allow riders their only opportunity of the year to ride over the beautiful Coronado Bay Bridge along the scenic 25-mile route. All riders will return to San Diego for a post-ride festival with food, beverage and entertainment. Registration fee includes ride entry, t-shirt and post-ride festival with food and beverage. 14 – Ride and Learn Oceanside. Meet at the San Luis Rey River bike path entrance on the west side of College Blvd. 9:00 meet for 9:15 ride start.

October

3, 4, 5 - Pedal to the MCAS MiramarAir Show. In partnership with the Marines, SDCBC will be organizing and staffing the first-ever, bicycle-friendly alternative for Air Show visitors. It will feature a secure, staffed, locks-optional Bicycle Parking Pavilion (BPP). Cyclists will be able to ride their bike from any point of origin, to the primary base gates, and will be directed by traffic control on the base to the Coalition BPP (located beside the central of 3 pedestrian Flight Line gates to the Show).   We will employ a wristband ID system similar to EarthFair and Petco Park bike parking systems.  Visitors can enjoy the Show and come back to reclaim their bike anytime. The BPP will operate during all Air Show hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, October 3, and Sunday, October 5, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, October 4 (includes twilight show).  Dave White wants to hear from all interested volunteers: p2park@san.rr.com or 619-881-5765.
